In western cultures, "love" (i.e., love other people) is a main theme. E.g., the bible says we should love Jesus and love our neighbors. In daily life, when people talk to each other, they use the word "love" much more often than Chinese.
In the Chinese culture, "love" is not a main theme. We focus on responsibilities (to our parents, to our families, to our children, to our country, etc.) That is, what we should do (because of our responsibilities)
Even the FLG only emphasizes "Truthfulness, Kindness, and Tolerant" ( Zhen, Shan, Ren). Where is love?
I think if someone study how frequent the word "love" is used in the Chinese media, and compare with that in the US, he/she will find a huge difference.
