“Survivor” scofflaw Richard Hatch was sent down for more than four years in a federal court in Providence yesterday for failing to pay taxes on his $1 million prize and other income.
U.S. District Judge Ernest Torres said he expected to sentence the 45-year-old Newport resident to 33 to 41 months, but he instead opted for a harsher sentence for the “Survivor” because portions of Hatch’s testimony defied logic and were “inherently incredible.”
“There’s no nice way to say it: Mr. Hatch lied,” Torres said, later adding that the reality show star’s failure to tell the truth fueled the tougher sentence.
