When you talked about that girl you proposed, you thought she knew you well, and would prefer you direct approach. If she were as you thought, she would have said yes. However, she wasn't interested in that kind of relation at all. There is a high chance you don't really know her at all. That's why I said listen more, and try to know others more rather then only let others know you.
