The buoyant force equals to the weight of the displaced volume of the water. There is no way for a 2 kg wood to be afloat on 1 kg water, regarding what float is defined.

If you make the thin film layers of water, the wood, or even a heavier metal could be supported by different mechanisms under some circumstances rather than the concept of buoyant force.
