Gun is designed to kill efficiently as an instrument of self-defense. Just like cars are designed for driving. They are both useful instrument to law biding citizens. In that sense, the analogy is as appropriate as it gets.

Your problem is you only see guns as a negative instrument used only by bad guy. So your point is meaningless.
