If you are the owner of the house, yes, you are responsible. If not, your landlord is responsible. When things like that happens, the first thing the plaintiff considers is the upper limit of your insurance policy. If you are not covered, the second thing he considers is the worth of your house. Therefore, anyone who owns a house here in the US should absolutely buy the landlord's insurance just in case somebody gets hurt on your property.
