1. you will use the best oil for your engine, and you will be very careful not to over-tighten the plug and filter, which most mechanics tend to do. For a typical oil/filter change they charge $25, but the oil they use is at most $2 per quart. By doing it yourself, even though you are spending $25 for a good filter and 4 quarts of good oil, you know you are doing a big favor to yourself.
2. disposal of the old oil and filter, many car shops will accept them for free.
3. tire rotation. Definitely do it yourself. Don't even need to buy a hydraulic jack stand, just use your emergency jack stand and the backup tire. You do need a torqued wrench when putting the tires back on, owner's manual should say how much torque.
