Almost all the students in China use "middle school" for "zhong-xue", but it is wrong. Formally "secondary school" is used; informally, "high school"(especially in America" is used. So we have "junior/senior secondary/high school". "Middle school" refers to the combination of upper stage of elementary schooling and lower stage of junior secondary schooling, a type it is claimed can be found in America, but surely not the mainstream. In Chiese we have "zhong-jian-xue-xiao" for it.
