FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- Officers are currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday morning (April 23).

Fayetteville Police Sgt. Craig Stout said it happened at 2:25 a.m. around Township Road and College Avenue.

Corporal Patrick Hanby and Officer Brandon Jones, with Fayetteville Police, stopped a maroon Chrysler for driving without headlights, according to Stout.

The driver, Willie Tillman, 33, was asked to step out of the vehicle. Moments later, Tillman dove back inside the car and attempted to flee from police.

A struggle then began between the officers and Tillman, who was able to drive the vehicle while the officers were partially inside.

Stout said both officers attempted to deploy their tasers but were unsuccessful for unknown reasons at this time.

"Sometimes they're just not effective," Stout said. "Whether or not they're able to get good contact with the tasers. There are a lot of factors, Unfortunately, tasers are a great option, but they are not 100% effective."

Hanby was able to safely remove himself from the vehicle, but Jones was still inside the vehicle while Tillman continued driving.

Jones fired off multiple shots and struck Tillman in the chest, abdomen, and leg and was eventually able to get the vehicle to stop on Sunbridge Drive.

The suspect's injuries are not reported to be fatal. We're told the officers are also okay, according to Stout.

"We're very fortunate in the fact that none of the officers were injured when this took place, and that Mr. Tillman was not killed," Stout said. "The officers did everything to try to gain compliance with him verbally, then with hands-on, and then even tried to use a less-lethal method, but they just were not able to do so. The officer felt for his safety and had to make the option to attempt to use deadly force."

It was later discovered that Tillman had several warrants out for his arrest: including felony warrants with the Washington and Pope County Sheriffs offices for drug charges, and a felony warrant with the Arkansas Department of Community Corrections for a parole violation.

Fayetteville Police is currently doing the internal investigation, while Washington County is handling the criminal investigation.

Police tell us Hanby is a six year veteran of the department, and Jones has been with the department for two years.

Officer Jones has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.

The trooper pulled Hobbs over about 6:25 p.m. after police say the suspect’s vehicle swerved and the two vehicles went down a driveway parallel to the Lil’ Country Store off Highway 177, highway patrol public information officer Sgt. Clark Parrott said in a news release Saturday. Parrott said he saw the trooper’s in-car video camera footage.

Hobbs got out of his vehicle and the trooper also exited his vehicle, Parrott said.

When Hobbs began “acting in a suspicious manner,” the trooper told the man to stop and he was able to place one handcuff on Hobbs before he escaped from the trooper, according to the release. During the fight, Parrott said, the driver struck the trooper with the loose handcuff multiple times.

The trooper made it clear he did not have his gun drawn at this point, because his hand was occupied with the cuffs, Parrott said at the scene Friday. The man then dragged the trooper back to his vehicle, jumped back inside and started to drive away, according to the release.

The two men struggled while the car went in four circles around the driveway, which was surrounded by grass. The trooper was able to turn off the vehicle, but the suspect was able to restart the car and continue driving, Parrott said in the release.

Then there was a struggle, at which point the trooper told the man to stop again and verbally warned him that if he failed to stop, he would be shot, Parrott said in the release. Then the trooper fired two rounds from his duty weapon, one of which struck Hobbs, fatally wounding him.

The trooper and other officers secured the other handcuff and attempted to provide first aid to Hobbs, Parrott said in the release, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the scene Friday, Parrott said the highway patrol has a policy to not release the name of an officer involved in a shooting. However, the trooper was transported to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau because he sustained facial lacerations and other non-life-threatening injuries during the struggle, Parrott said. Parrott added the cuts were caused by the open side of the handcuffs that was loose during the incident.

The highway patrol’s Division of Drug Crime Control continues to investigate the shooting, the release stated.

Jowanda Brown, who identified herself as Hobbs’s girlfriend, said she arrived on the scene about 8 p.m. She said the man would not hurt a flea.

A friend of the man who was on scene said the man was unarmed when the incident occurred. The friend added the man had interactions with the police before, but it was regarding incidents that would merit merely a misdemeanor charge.

“They said they stopped him trying to assault a police officer, which I find very hard to believe,” Brown said, fighting back tears. “He did not deserve this. This is wrong.”

MUNCIE, Ind. (April 15, 2016) -- Muncie police say a man died Friday evening after a police action shooting in a field.

The officer involved was dispatched to the 4200 block of East Jackson Street around 7:40 p.m. on a report of a threat. Police would not elaborate on the nature of the threat.

Police say an altercation between the officer and Storm Allen Smith, 26, occurred. A foot pursuit and a struggle ensued between the two, then police say the officer shot Smith.

During a press conference Friday evening, Muncie Police Chief Steve Stewart said the officer is a two year veteran of the police department. His name is not being released right now. It's unclear how many times he was shot.

The officer involved in the shooting was sent to the emergency room, but he is expected to be okay. It's not clear how the officer was injured. The officer will be placed on administrative leave during an investigation. The police department will hand over their findings to the Delaware County Prosecutors Office.

Stewart would not comment Friday night on if Smith was carrying a weapon. Stewart did say the officer was carrying a stun gun but is unsure if it was deployed before the shooting. The officer was wearing a body camera, but Stewart said the video will not be released during the investigation.

The shooting is the third in Muncie this week. The first murder of the year happened Sunday. And two men were shot Thursday evening after police say an ongoing feud turned deadly.

“It’s been very taxing. Myself and everybody else at this police department is maxed out right now, but that’s what we do to protect this community. That’s what we do 24/7," Stewart said.

MCPHERSON, Kan. (KWCH)-- A suspect dies in an officer involved shooting that happened after several Taser blasts failed to stop the suspect, the KBI said.

Family members identified the suspect as Jeff Robertson. They told KWCH the 54-year-old suffered from a mental illness.

According to the agency's preliminary investigation, the shooting happened when McPherson Co. Sheriff's deputies tried to serve an arrest warrant and the suspect, who has not been identified physically attacked them. During that struggle, one of the deputies repeatedly fired his Taser, in several modes, with no success.

The suspect started punching one of the deputies in the face, refusing the other officers commands for him to stop. The suspect then turn his attention to the second deputy, attacking him, before starting to punch the first deputy.

When the suspect turned away from the second deputy, he pulled his gun and shot the suspect, the KBI said.

After shooting him, officers provided first aid until emergency teams arrived. EMS workers took the suspect to McPherrson Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation took over the investigation. It said whole incident was captured on video, which will be used in the investigation. The KBI said it would not release any more information until they are done and turn the case over to the McPherson Co. attorney
