not to do anything is not an easy thing to *do*! the interconnectedness of the natural (and social, to a large extent) is such that local impacts far exceed human-defined boundaries; the atmosphere, the oceans, the forests, the animals and plants, the rivers, and others are all prone to great impacts - often negative - across national, regional, local, architectural, cultural, and ideological boundaries. it is probably the anti-status-quo entailed such interconnectedness that pseudo-scientists and hypocratic politicians are so keen denouncing the positive aspects of environmentalism - whether in the name of critiqing "the awe of nature" or by other means.
