It's just a profession. One does what he needs to do if he choses medicine as his profession. There are other professions that require equal or more amount of training and stress but are less reward.

Not sure what point the author tried to make. Does he imply because the entry barrier for being a doctor in US is very high and requires extensive post graduate training a doctor has to be more valueble, therefore is entitled for more profit? Well it is reasonable for him to earn the enough money during his career to pay back the cost of training. But anything beyond that can't be taken for granted.

After all, the value of a person is not reflected by the education and training he has received or the industry he works in. The value is reflected by the quality of decisions he needs to make for his life.
