nationals working in SH. This excludes HKers and TWese. Japenese is the largest population among this group, followed by American and Korean. THis might be one reason you don't feel there are as many foreigners in SH. Assuming half of these people have their spouses and partners living with them, the number of residents of foreign national should be around 50k. If you count in their children, there might be 10k more.
I speculate that unregistered temoprary foreign residents could be another 20k-30k or so.
There were 19000 foreign students studying SH based university at the end of 2004. This is a big number. I suppose it includes TWese.
The number of TWese and HKers living in SH was said to be around 300k.
Don't know the figure of foreign business and leisure travellers. THis should be very large number.
