China's has big problems in its banking system. Those dollars reserve would be very valuable one day as reforms is going on the banking system. PK welcomes China's unpeg because it would bring early the day of reckoning--the earlier US comes out from fisical irresponsibility, the less serious the outcome would be. He is standing from the point of view of an American. I don't welcome it since I am afraid of the financial crisis of 1997--standing from the point of view of a Chinese. But US is not willing to compensate the losers of trade, and the losers' anger is accumulating, and there might be some political backlash. US must have some protectivist actions (footnote: I think it's immoral to blame the innocents, but that's the reality). The better way that the innocent Chinese to cope with it is voluntary export tax. On this matter I agree with Joseph Stiglitz. PK himself say little on it.
