When I was in middle school, I wrote a BASIC program about randomly generating colors and shapes. Unfortunately, preparing exam consumed most of my energy at that time. Late I am in medical school which is a stagnant place at the best. No computer or whatever.
I never formally learned any computer language --including statistics software. But you know, I just feel I have a knack of that. It is one of my favorite hobbies. I even wrote a median-size database application N-n years ago. It is commerically ready.
Do I upset you because my hobby is your career? :-)
I wish I have time and energy to learn some weird languages and write some weird applications. Just for fun!
