Roughly remembering that the person with highest information bid like in the private valution case, with the surplus in the case, but actually he is getting value in the case that the true value which is based on his and others information is less than his own private information (otherwise he won;t win). Hence winning is a curse.
"yet, bidding is still optimal for him"--we derive it by using what if he bid espilon less than his private information, but forget the details.
