by a VC firm whose name is X. X also invested in a lot of other startups but they all failed and X lost a lot of money because of that. Now X is asking google's shareholder to cover its loss. To make things worse, X sold all google's share at about the same time google went public. This does not make any sense.

I say the business model of record company is screwed up. The product in question is not music but a cultural experience associated to music. Music is one feature of the entire product line and it is only significant at the very early stage of the product life cycle. It is very normal to lose money at the early stage for any business. Instead of trying to recoup all its investment at early stage, record company should focus more on generating revenue at mature stage of its product life cycle.
