no one knows exactly how this socioeconomic stuff gets into the moderate risk group. It is statistically significant in the regression model, that's for sure.
The mechanism is tricky. It is difficult to conceive a direct link from where you live and how you behave to the breast cancer. Howevever, high socioeconomic status is a surrogate marker for many things including protein and fat rich diet (but now they are more likely to be vegeterians), high life stress, hormone therapy, pregnancy history, and even genes. It is also related to the earlier detection of breast cancer, as most modern analysis is done using survival analysis.
