The point is, learning a particular version of assembly doesn't mean anything. Most of the old dogs "learned" assembly on microprocessor related class and most of them were in EE or computer engineering majors. I don't even recall if I had been taught about "PC." The first class I took that required to work on an IBM PC, was in an advance OS class, and the instructors handed down two floppies labeled Minix and had us to implement some thing like spooler or semaphore on that platforms. x86 assembly manual was on the shelf for us to borrow.
