The point is that, for people who dont have the genes, environment doesnt matter. But for people who have the genes, the environment will contribute to a greater extent as whether they have myopia, how severe the myopia is, etc.

Pooling those who have no genes and those who do diminishes the impact of environment for those who have genes.
