In the US, it is definitely too early to say that his technique works. For otherwise nih deosn't need to give him the money to investigate. Obvious they want to find out too. But I am not sure whether the experients he did in China would satisfy Chinese regulators.
And if it'd work, let me tell you, he'd be GOD. It would help improve the quality of life for those people greatly. You should see the life of those people. My friend was at a restaurant having dinner with her date where one of the customers dropped his bag and the whole restaurant smelled like hell.
