Why do we spend so much time to look back and debate why we did not have Newton of our own? Why do chinese have to have a great scientist to help us define who we are? Most nations did not produce any great scientist but that does not prevent people of these nations from living a happy life.

We never forget, conciously or subconciously, that we were defeated and humiliated anytime we deal with foreigners. That's loser's mentality. Why can't a chinese identify himself as a modern human being first before associating himself with a long history of glory and humiliation? How can chinese surpass competitors if we never let go the horrific memory of being defeated? Chinese must put behind the bloody Opium War. It is settled, closed, it is history. Not being able to put it behind is preventing Chinese from identifying our own strength and from looking forward in today's competitive world, therefore preventing us from being a winner.
