I do not think that you can say that.

回答: What you said is right about nature selection 由 AI 于 2005-3-17, 13:11:23:

'Then can I say that nature has pointed a direction for evolution as long as the environment allows.'

1. there is not 'a' direction. there are endless ways to improve fitness in a given condition. The ways we see now is only the ones had mutations to practice them and had also won out.

2. nature does not 'point' at a direction or we would not see so much variety now. all directions might work .

3. environment is different for each individual. One trait is good here but may not be good elsewhere. However, the fate of the species is tied with each survival. The only way 'allow' can be used is an individual 'to be allowed to leave viable offspring'. In that sense, chance plays a hugh part in evolution.

I can not believe that you are serious about that evolution has enough intelligence to 'point a direction'. Nonetheless, argument is always good.
