Robert Wright used the term "nonzero" in one of his books to stress this idea. Namely, "good" guys can reciprocate each other and as a group profit and grow in a cheater-dominating environment.
The "kindness" we have, such as honesty, self-sacrafice are meant to create nonzero-sum game beneficial to the participants thru repricical acts.
This research is really exciting since it kind of connects the speculative theory from evolutionary reasoning with physiological facts.
