Mr. Cao Deming is the professor and supervisor of PhD students. And he is the vice director and group leader of "National Foreign Language Major Guide Committee", the chairman of "China French Language Teaching and Research Institute", etc. He used to be the vice secretary-general and vice president of Shanghai International Studies University.

He graduated from French Language Faculty of Shanghai International Studies University in 1977, and then has stayed and taught there till now. During 1987 to 2001 he was assigned as the vice director of French Language Faculty and afterwards to director, the dean of Western Language College, etc. During 1981 to 1984 he went to France for study, gaining DEA and PhD of French language. In 1990 he won the "Young Teacher Award" by Ministry of Education of P.R.C., "Excellent Teacher Award" by Baosteel Education Fund in 1996, "Golden Palm Official Medal of French Education" in 2001 and so on.

He devoted into the research of French language and literature and published over 30 pieces of "Language Standard & Diversity of Language", "The Cultural Meaning and Translation of Vocabulary", etc.

He had published the books of "Modern French Vocabulary", "French-Chinese Practical Classification Dictionary", "Canadian Literature Dictionary", etc. Moreover he translated the works of "Woman Paradise", "Attala René", "Social Linguistics", "From Paris to Jerusalem", "The Collection of Voltaire's Medium-length and Full-length Novels", etc
