中国教育部不承认从国外获得的远程教育学历，美国政府也不承认从英国得到的远程教育学历，但英国是承认从英国大学获得的远程教育学历。比如在Heriot-Watt大学（英国的一所排名前十名的大学）的远程教育网页的FAQ部分(http://www.pet.hw.ac.uk/study/distance/faqs.cfm?category=study)提到：

Question： Is the Heriot-Watt University MSc degree accredited? （翻译： Heriot-Watt大学硕士学位是否得到认可，译注：这里的硕士指石油工程硕士）
Answer: The Masters program is accredited by the UK Institute of Energy and the IMM but is not accredited in the USA. （翻译: 英国能源部认可此学位，但美国不认可）

在Heriot-Watt大学远程教育网页（http://www.pet.hw.ac.uk/study/distance/intro.cfm）里提到 ”The student who studies on a distance learning basis will however graduate with the same degree as the students who undertake the course at Heriot-Watt”。（翻译： 学习远程教育的学生将获得与在学校学习的学生同样的学历）。

在Heriot-Watt大学进行远程教育学习，需要通过申请并满足入学条件，比如本科学历，工作经验，英文水平等。完成所有课程大约需要6000英镑，每个课程（约10个）需要在当地英国领事馆进行考试，每次考试费用大约60英镑。通过所有科目考试后还需要做最后的研究项目。

在我们公司（英国），有几个英国同事是通过远程教育得到的硕士学历，其中一个20年前在剑桥大学拿到天文学博士学位，现在由于工作性质变动，需要从事石油工程工作，所以他就在Heriot-Watt大学拿到远程教育硕士学历。在公司的简历上他也会写上他的这个学历。
