Free market is never free. It is just a tool for the power player during a dealing between parties of unequal power.
Role of government is to set fair competition and dealing rules, just like what we see in the sports, where you can limit age, sex and performance enhancing drugs etc.
We can debate how government can be involved, but excluding government as a player is definitely not correct.
