A friend of mine told me that he always threw the applications from China into the paper-basket before he became professor and he would never accept Chinese students in his Ph.D program.
Here are some observations I made recently concerning the complaints from students with Chinese characteristics:
(1) Blame their teachers for low professional levels such as not having won a Nobel prize (well if you are then you can be blamed for (3) below).
(2) Complaining about slave-driving behavior of their teachers, i.e., too much work for too little pay. (The ideal situation seems to be to have no work but a high pay, a cultural heritage from state owned enterprises).
(3) Gassiping about private lives of their teachers (a typical Chinese characteristic with some rural background).
