To: Dr. Anthony J. Campillo, Editor-in-Chief of Optics Letters or others responsible for plagiarism investigation Dear Sir/Madam, We wish to report you an urgent issue regarding the following paper which has been accepted and will soon be published on Optics Letters. We found paper posted on your website: Title: Measurements of the alpha-factor of a DFB-quantum cascade laser by a novel optical self-mixing technique Authors: XXXXXXXX Accepted: XXXXXX Posted: XXXXXX Doc. ID: XXXXX We report this to you because the main contributing approach proposed by paper ID68778 was already published one and half year ago in the following SPIE Proceesings: Title: Measuring the linewidth enhancement factor of semiconductor lasers based on weak optic feedback Authors: Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi, Enbang Li and Joe F. Chicharo Publication: in Proc. SPIE Vol. 5628, Semiconductor Lasers and Applications II, Jian-quan Yao, Yung Jui Chen, Seok Lee; Eds. Jan 2005, p. 34-39 By comparing the two papers listed above, it is easy to find: 1. The contributing approach proposed by the paper ID XXX is the formula for calculating the alpha-factor, which is on line 4, page 4. It is obvious that the formula is exactly the same as Equation (11) proposed in the SPIE paper. Note that the SPIE paper also presented the detailed procedure for the derivation of the formula. 2. Paper IDXXX uses similar graphs to the SPIE paper in demonstrating the use of the above mentioned formula. As can be seen, the bottom graph of Figure 2 in paper IDXXX is almost the same as the Figure 3 in the above mentioned SPIE paper. Based on the above we believe that there is little new in the paper ID 68778 and should not appear on the highly reputable journal Optics Letters. In order to help your investigation, we attached the SPIE paper to this letter. We also want to let you know that, one of the author, Dr. XXXX was one of the former colleagues of Dr. Yanguang Yu (one of the senders for this letter) in terms of collaborative research (see IEEE Photon. Technol. Lett. PT-16, 990, 2004). Dr. Yu and Dr. XXX had kept regular contacts during the past few years, and they know each other’ s work very well, and hence we believe that Dr. XXX knows the SPIE paper. We are shocked when noticing that ther paper IDXXX has sent to and accepted by Optics Letters. Thank you very much for your attention.
