I guess one thing sort of different is the command line user interface.

Unix has deep support for command line user interface + text presentation and processing, so that one or many can work well in shell sessions over network, and job batching is easy, ... I don't know how Windows supports that, I heard they make objects VB-scriptable, but don't know how they deal with kernel manipulations through command line. Do they have something similar to the /proc file system?
