A book I am reading right now.
It was mid-19th century when USA was in the rise and the 'Majestic Destiny' floating in its culture. William Walker, a physician, lawyer & journalist barely of 30, led 58 men into Nicaragua and became its president. Nicaragua, by then, was the route linking Atlantic and Pacific because Panama cannal wouldn't be technically possible for another half a century. Soon Walker was smashed between superpowers behind central America and died at 36.
Latin America is a good ground to watch the interplays between democracy , tradition and politics. Today's world still plays under the many same rules. The story behind Walker is a good one to elaborate many views. I would very much to see the book be translated. Or I might rewrite Walker story in a few years.
