Dear Dr Gleick,

Since your open letter published last week, it has drawn global
attentions. I know a group of Chinese scientist/supporters are working
on translation of the letter and there have been some heated
discussions on the exact meaning of the word "integrity".

According to the disctionary, integrity has two meanings:

1. adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral
character; honesty.
2. the state of being whole, entire, or undiminished: to preserve the
integrity of the empire.

Some of us believe it should be 1 and others think that 2 is the
answer. Since none of us is native English speaker, we think the final
call should come from the author. It's greatly appreciated if you can
clarify the meaning of the word and this will help us maintain the
accuracy of the translation.

Sincerely yours,

XXX
